Arrival at Sackets Harbour Safe & Sound.
Had a great evening crossing to Sackets Harbour last night. We left the dock at 3:30PM, and had a perfect SW wind of 15 knot average. Sailing for 9 hours average speed of 7 knots. Calm seas that built slowly as we got further and further easy. Waves built to about 4 feet behind us, which helped push Black Diamond along. If you followed our track, we were very close to the US side, and as the wind shifted, we tacked about 9PM and sailed on until 2am, when the wind died. We ended up motoring it the rest of the way. Arriving at about 2:30PM.
We had time to test out our deep sea fishing rods, and trolled all the way across the lake. Did not catch anything however.
Beautiful sunset, the evening was so clear, the stars were unbelievable. Mark and I enjoyed an amazing meteor shower show half the night. God’s creation is truly magnificent!
Our wind instruments failed, must be a pinch in the mast. When the wind died down, they came back. But we had to hand steer, using only compass, until about 1:30am.
Early morning greeting by a barge, we were on a collision course, but all is good.
Beautiful sailing, Ed! I wish you safe travels!
Wishing you fair winds and happy times
