Great Lakes Yacht Delivery of a 40′ Silverton Flybridge Twin Screw.

I was contracted by a customer who purchased a 40′ Silverton Flybridge Twin screw power boat delivery during Covid 2021. Everyone and anyone was purchasing boats and cottages all over Ontario for something to do during the Canadian lock downs. Boats were in demand, and demanding a king’s ransom. Buyers are searching further and further for available boats at more reasonable prices. My customer found this Silverton on Lake St. Clair, and needed someone to bring her to her new home at the Outter Harbour Marina in East Toronto.

I was up for the yacht delivery, and even offered him a discount if I could do it with my wife, son and another couple. I would need the help as this Great Lakes delivery would take us through the Welland Canal. We crossed the Lake St. Clair, down the Detroit river to Lake Erie, across Lake Erie length wise, then through the Welland Canal and Lake Ontario to Toronto. The trip was 350 Nautical miles, we took it leisurely, and completed it in 5 days. Because this was also a bit of a family vacation, I quoted a flat reduced rate, and took care of our own travel and provisioning expenses.

The Welland Canal transit was a challenging, very long day, took us about 12 hours. We were lucky to have no delays by on coming tankers. The tankers get priority, and could have you waiting on the side lines for hours. I heard of some horror stories of folks waiting for 12 hours or more. Our transit although long, was quick in comparison and we had no issues at all.

“An excellent yacht delivery captain service!    We recently purchased a 40 foot Silverton twin screw flybridge powerboat (30 yrs old) that was located on Lake St Clair and hired Captain Ed to make the journey with our new baby from Lake St. Clair, down the Detroit river, across Lake Erie, a transit through the Welland Canal and across Lake Ontario to our new home at the Outer Harbour Marina in Toronto.  We are relatively new to boating and were especially nervous about the Welland Canal part of the trip.  Ed coached us and assisted us in planning the journey which was great learning for us, and even rented a trailer to transport all the safety equipment down to the boat. Throughout the trip, Ed was continuously updating us on how things were going (with lots of photos!) and it was clear he was treating our boat as he would his own. He arrived right on schedule and on budget and left the boat clean and ready to go – impressive especially since it had not previously been well cared for and was unused for 3+ years. He was also available afterwards to help us learn the ins and outs of the new boat, provided lessons on docking a twin screw and was always available for questions afterwards. We would highly recommend Captain Ed for any of your powerboat yacht deliveries!”
