I, Guest Blogger, Gordana Mosher, was very fortunate to have travelled with Captain Ed and Paul on the boat Black Diamond to the Bahamas last year and other incredible sailing adventures we enjoyed together. They both love sailing and have shared many stories of all the great cruising destinations throughout the Bahamas. They have connected with so many people both in The Abacos and Grand Bahamas and other areas in the Bahamas. This hurricane, as we have seen in the news recently has been beyond devastating.
Many of the locals have lost so much, and the devastation is unbearable. Over the years, Ed & Paul have developed so many great friendships with the locals who unfortunately have been deeply affected and suffered tremendous loss.
There are many agencies raising money for immediate support that is desperately needed. But often what happens is after a few months these people are often forgotten.
The Black Diamond Sailing vessel is now safely in Miami and will be returning to The Abacos and Grand Bahamas in November. The needs of the people will be different, but there will still be needs. Their goal is to speak to their friends at that time as to what is most needed and can’t be purchased in the Bahamas.
The sailboat will be loaded with these needed items, sailed to the Bahamas, they have a friend that owns one of the largest customs brokerage houses in the Bahamas, he will get the items cleared through customs if needed, they don’t anticipate having to pay any duties for humanitarian efforts. Then these items will be delivered to the people that are most in need of them.
Ed & Paul, will donate their own funds to the effort also and are asking for additional help in this effort. If more funds are raised than supplies can be loaded on the boat, then those funds will be donated to humanitarian efforts on the ground in the Bahamas.
Receipts for all purchased items and donations will be provided and posted back to this page once completed. They will also be producing new Youtube videos of the efforts as they are unfolding.
Over the years, Ed has filmed and shared dozens of youtube videos of his travels and experiences throughout the Bahamas, which you can find on his YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/psychoskippered . The passion behind the lens of this extraordinary sailor with a huge heart, who wants to do whatever he can to give back to a community, where he has made many personal connections.
Here is a link to a youtube video that Paul and Ed produced just hours before Hurricane Dorian hit the Bahamas, they were on a mission to extract the sailing vessel Black Diamond from Freeport, Bahamas and bring her out of harms way to Miami, Florida. https://youtu.be/0P30TeFtqRU
If you can help out with a small donation, $1, $5, $10 or even $20 will go a long way if we all give a little. If you have already given through other fundraising efforts for the Bahamas, we thank you!
