Sailing Rode’s Pod cast interview with the Radonic’s about Black Diamond their Ocean Performance Cruiser.
Follow this link to listen to the Sailing Rode’s interview with Ed & Roxane Radonic about their experiences ocean cruising and racing Black Diamond. The interview with Ed & Roxane starts at about 16:30 minutes into the show. Black Diamond is a very versatile yacht, a performance cruiser, which means that it is primarily a comfortable cruise boat, for living aboard and entertaining. The performance doesn’t mean it is a race boat, but that it will out-perform most cruise boats.
The 39′ foot boat, has a 60 foot mast from the waterline, almost a 13 foot beam lead well aft, 6’6″ bulb keel. These stats make her very comfortable and fast on the ocean. The sail plan is designed for ocean sailing. Doesn’t perform as well in light lake breezes, but in 20 to 30 knots on 10-20 foot ocean swells, she is very stable and averages 10-12 knots. It is not unusual to hit 13 to 15 knots surfing swells on a nice broad reach.
