Nassau to the Berry Islands, Bahamas
After provisioning in Nassau we set a course for the Berry Islands, a 36 mile passage across the North East Providence Channel. A large body of water between New Providence and Berry Islands. It’s amazing how deep these waters get from the shallows of 10 feet in the Bahamas Cays to 7,500 feet and even 10,000 feet in some of the seas surrounding the Bahamas.
We are on a tight schedule in order to make it back to Florida, within our 2 weeks off during March break. Leaving Warderick Wells Cay, Land & Sea Park, and plotted a course straight for Nassau. We only spent one night in Nassau to re-provision for the trip to Florida. We will stop at Chubb Cay at the South West tip of the Berry Islands then cross the Great Bahama Bank for the Bimini Islands.
It was a beautiful day, light winds, so rather than using the motor, we decided to pop the Asymmetric Spinnaker. We have a nice black one to match our boat Black Diamond. Eventually we will get a large Diamond design embroidered into it. It was the first time Roxane and I hoisted and sailed it with just the two of us.
The passage to Chubb took us about 6 hours. The kids enjoyed the sail, and as you can see Alex enjoyed a nice Chicken Wing lunch with fries.
